Reiki is a very gentle form of "energy work." The practicioner promotes healing by directing the flow of energy in the body often without making physical contact. The development of Reiki is attributed to a Japanese Buddhist named Mikai Usui (1865-1926). Reiki is based on the idea that there is life force energy that can be encouraged to flow. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words. Rei means "God's Wisdom " and Ki (known as "Chi" in Chinese) is "life force energy."
